Let me first start off by saying thank you all so much for being patient with my inconsistency of posts. I graduated last month and I’m ready to blog. I am officially one degree hotter. I have my M.S. in Forensic Psychology. Woo hoo!! 🎉 So now I can devote my time to my blog and hobbies. Today’s post will discuss looking like gold by dressing for success.
Alchemy is defined as the transformation of matter to convert base metals into gold. Often times, our foundation influences our life choices and achievements. Education was always something that my family, and parents in particular, instilled in me. Every parent wants their child(ren) to achieve more than they have. For me, I am the first person (maternal and paternal), in my immediate family, to receive a Master’s degree. I did not realize the weight of that until my mother reminded me. I can’t help but to think of my ancestors, during black history month, that fought, bled, and died for equal rights. Because of them I now have a Master’s degree. In the very pictures above, slaves were auctioned where this fountain use to be and to this day there is still no signage by this fountain that educates people of this unpleasant act. My parents always taught me to look everyone in the eyes, arrive early, and dress to impress. While I am not working in my field yet, I have been building my professional wardrobe. I am in front of people everyday and I love to dress business casual. When dressing for success, you always want to be professional but also incorporate your own style. You want to make sure that you are not distracting your clients and the people you encounter from your work.
There are two types of professional dress. You can either go business professional or business casual. Business professional typically involves a suit. For men, this would be a full suit with a dress shirt and tie. For women, this is typically a pant or skirt suit with a button down shirt or cardigan. Business casual for men typically consists of a nice pair of slacks or khakis and a shirt or sweater. The tie is optional when dressing business casual and does not include a suit jacket. Business casual for women can include slacks, a blouse, or a sweater. Stockings, tights, and jackets are optional with business casual. My attire for work is typically business casual. My favorites are pants or pencil skirts with a nice top. Occasionally I will add a cardigan, duster, or blazer to dress it up and make it business professional. These are the essentials for professional dress and just as my parents gave me the tools to achieve my goals, you can now do the same. Set your professional goals and now turn that base metal (foundation) into gold. When you set goals and begin to achieve them, you will feel like a boss, be successful, and drip with golden success. **I have attached some of my professional attire below.
